Cantor Gaming on Wednesday became the first shop in the business to release point spreads for the 240 games that take place from Week 1 to Week 16.

“This is the fourth year we’ve done the NFL lines for Weeks 1-16 of the NFL season,” Cantor Gaming Sportsbook Director Mike Colbert told the National Football Post Tuesday evening. “We do it is because it generates so much interest and allows people who may be in Vegas this summer to make their bets for the season if they don’t plan on coming back.”

Let’s not get carried away, here’s the list for week one.

WEEK 1

Dallas Cowboys (+3) at New York Giants
Indianapolis Colts (+9.5) at Chicago Bears
Philadelphia Eagles (-7) at Cleveland Browns

What seems more futuristic: flying cars or self-driving cars? They both sound a bit like science fiction, but they’re both getting closer to becoming a reality. In the latest chapter of Google’s efforts to develop a car that uses video cameras, radar sensors and lasers to navigate through traffic, the state of Nevada just granted Google the world’s first license for a computer-controlled, driverless Toyota Prius. Meanwhile, this week we also checked in on the PAL-V (which stands for “Personal Air and Land Vehicle”), a two-seat hybrid car and gyroplane that runs on gas, biodiesel or bio-ethanol. In other transportation news, the Texas Central Railroad floated a plan to build a $10-billion bullet train that would run between Houston and Fort Worth, and Toyota officially unveiled its second-generation 2012 RAV4 EV, which features a Tesla powertrain.

We also saw green technology cropping up in unexpected places this week, like the $1-billion ghost town that will be built on virgin desert land in Lea County, New Mexico to test emerging green technologies. Construction on the ghost town is set to begin in late June. Milwaukee native Bryan Cera invented Glove One, a 3D-printed glove that doubles as a cell phone. And in Tokyo, participants heaved 100,000 LED lights into the Sumida River as part of the 2012 Tokyo Hotaru Festival. Although it certainly looked cool, that’s a lot of LED bulbs to literally dump in the river, and it raises some questions about e-waste. GE found a more practical use for LEDs, unveiling a new LED light bulb to replace the 100-watt incandescent.

Not a Good Week For Falcons Running Backs

By Jake Saltzman

It was a historically bad week for Atlanta Falcon running backs, complete with revelations of owed taxes and a roster cut of a player who at one time made more money than any other player at his position.

First broke the news that Jamal Anderson owed over a million dollars in taxes to the IRS. Shortly thereafter, fan favorite Ovie Mughelli was informed he had been cut by one of only two pro organizations he had ever known.

Thankfully for the Falcons, Michael Turner and Jacquizz Rodgers weren’t among those making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

According to TMZ, Anderson currently owes over 1.1. million dollars in taxes to the IRS, dating back to the years 2007 and 2008. The news broke only a short time after Anderson jumped aboard the ever-growing train of former NFL players suing the NFL for reasons pertaining to concussion treatment.

A Pro Bowler in 1998, Anderson enjoyed his best NFL season that year, leading the NFC in rushing yards and guiding the Falcons to an upset win in the NFC Championship Game and birth in Super Bowl XXXIII. His post-NFL life has not been as remarkable however, highlighted by a cocaine related arrest in 2009 at an Atlanta club.

With this news of tax evasion and an anticipated property lien, Anderson sure looks like he’ll be following his lawsuit rather closely in the coming months.

For fullback Ovie Mughelli, things turned sour when the Falcons drafted Bradie Ewing in the fifth round of last month’s draft. Though Mughelli’s only 31 years old, he’s coming off a major injury and also plays a position dying out on NFL rosters across the league. Though Mughelli has a Pro Bowl appearance on his resume, as well as two All-Pro selections, the market for free agent fullbacks hasn’t exactly been kind to those who have tested it recently.

A fan favorite in Atlanta, Mughelli was revered for his charity work in and around the major metropolitan areas of the Southeastern United States. The Ovie Mughelli Foundation works to guide and oversee the development of children across the country, while Mughelli himself has been named a top five Eco-Athlete by the Planet Green TV network.

Mughelli spent 2007 to 2011 with the Falcons, scoring five touchdowns in that span. In his six year NFL career, he has played in over 110 games.

If you’re the type of person who’s already interested in the line for the Week 8 game between the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers — and, let’s face it; you’re on Shutdown Corner on a Wednesday afternoon four months from the start of the season, so we know the answer — then you may want to clear the next 20 minutes.

Cantor Gaming, a company that runs a number of Las Vegas sportsbooks, has released lines for every NFL game through Week 16 of the 2012 NFL season. Want to bet on the Lions-49ers rematch? Hoping to get on the RGIII bandwagon early? Eager to throw some money on your favorite team to win after their bye week? Desperate to find another way to lose your paycheck in Vegas? You’re in luck, my degenerate friends.

What do the odds show? Vegas loves the Philadelphia Eagles, has no idea what to do with Peyton Manning’s Denver Broncos, wavers on the decimated New Orleans Saints and is fairly certain how Mike Mularkey’s first season in Jacksonville is going to go. The season spreads contain few surprises — the Indianapolis Colts are expected to be bad, the Green Bay Packers are expected to be good — but are a good way to kill some time during the NFL’s May doldrums.

A week-by-week selection of the most interesting lines (via Covers.com):

Week 2

Detroit Lions (+3.5) at San Francisco 49ers

Week 3

New York Giants (PK) at Carolina Panthers

Week 4

New York Giants (+4) at Philadelphia Eagles

Week 5

Green Bay Packers (+9.5) at Indianapolis Colts

Week 6

Denver Broncos (+2.5) at San Diego Chargers

Week 7

New York Jets (+8) at New England Patriots

Week 8

Jacksonville Jaguars (+14) at Green Bay Packers

Week 9

Pittsburgh Steelers (+3) at New York Giants

Week 10

Denver Broncos (PK) at Carolina Panthers

Week 11

Indianapolis Colts (+14) at New England Patriots

Week 12

Carolina Panthers (+7) at Philadelphia Eagles

Week 13

Philadelphia Eagles (-1) at Dallas Cowboys

Week 14

New Orleans Saints (+2.5) at New York Giants

Week 15

Green Bay Packers (-3) at Chicago Bears

Week 16

New Orleans Saints (-1) at Dallas Cowboys

The Hard Rock, Palms, Venetian and M Resort are among the casinos taking action on individual games from now until the start of the season.

Man-made islands; indoor ski slopes; temporary ice hotels. We thought we had seen it all in Dubai, and then the Middle Eastern city went and outdid itself with the Water Discus Hotel, a hotel that will feature a series of sci-fi styled discs, one of which will be located 21 stories underwater. For those who prefer to stay above water, Antwerp will open one of the world’s largest floating swimming pools this summer. Made from an old ferry boat, Badboot will be 120 meters long and it’ll be part of a larger facility that can host as many as 600 people. And across the point in New York, the One World Trade Center skyscraper was just crowned the tallest building in NYC.
