Sony Computer Entertainment announces Unity for PlayStation
Sony Computer Entertainment and Unity Technologies have announced that they have formed a strategic partnership. The partnership focuses on the Unity multi-platform engine and development tools. The strategic partnership between these two companies kicked off on March 15 of this year.

The partnership will see Sony offer Unity for PlayStation to provide an optimized development environment that works for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation Mobile. Sony says that PlayStation platform development tools will be ruled out starting this fall. Developers with a license agreement from Sony for the PlayStation SDK will be able to build and deploy what Sony calls entertainment experiences for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita without spending as much resources on complicated programming processes.
The Unity for PlayStation system will allow developers to port games to each of the Sony gaming offerings without having to rewrite code from scratch. Using Unity developers will also be able to bring IP to dedicated console systems like the PlayStation Vita and still allow gamers to take advantage of the unique features of each platform such as root touchpads, dual analog sticks, front and rear cameras, and motion sensors.
The system will also allow developers to create games for PlayStation Mobile without having to use an additional PlayStation Mobile SDK. Sony says it will also enable developers using Unity to create games for future cloud services that will be delivered by Sony Computer Entertainment by utilizing Unity for PlayStation. Games developed using the new platform will be available via the PlayStation Store and developers will be able to integrate PlayStation Network features into their games using the platform such as trophy functionality.

Sony uses supermodels to show off Xperia Z’s waterproof feature
In the modern world, consumers are barraged with a smorgasbord of products, which blur into a blinking, glowing, plastic haze after awhile. Companies need to put in some effort to catch potential buyers’ attention, something Sony has achieved alongside T-Mobile with its Xperia Z live advertisement in the Czech Republic, which features a supermodel using it in the shower.

The demonstration took place in the window front of a T-Mobile store in the Czech Republic, where a clear shower was installed. Showing off the Xperia Z’s waterproof capabilities in perhaps the most eye-catching way possible, a pink bikini-clad supermodel took the phone into the shower with her and used it in the water. As you can see below, this drew quite the crowd.

That was certainly a brazen way to launch a flagship handset, with the Xperia Z hitting shelves in the nation this week. Less anyone feel left out, a guy also tested the phone out in the shower, with the models taking turns. One thing is certain, those who happened to pass by aren’t going to forget this live product show as fast as they would a 20 second TV commercial.
The Xperia Z is quite a nice handset, which we detailed in a full review that you can check out for yourself here. The handset features a 5-inch full 1920 x 1080p HD display, as well as a quad-core processor, 13.1-megapixel camera, and, of course, a completely waterproof design. It runs Android 4.l Jelly Bean.

Sony unveils MDR-X05 on-ear compact headphones
Sony has unveiled the newest addition to its X line of headphones, the MDR-X05. These compact headphones feature over-the-ear swivel cups, and are boasted as offering excellent sound reproduction in an attractive, colorful body. Check out a couple pictures of the headset, as well as its specs and other particulars, after the jump.

The X05 utilize 40mm drivers, meaning you won’t find yourself complaining about lack of bass. The cups are surrounded by memory foam pads, which means they will adhere to the shape of the wearer’s ears, helping to avoid the discomfort that can result from typical over-the-ear headsets. In addition, this also provides a great deal of noise isolation, so you won’t have to worry about disturbances.
The cable on the X05 headphones is specially designed to avoid tangles and similar problems that can result with long cords. This is achieved by using grooved surface serrations to “eliminate” friction. The headset includes an Apple 3-button control as well, and is available in silver, black on red, red on black, red on silver, black on silver, and whilte on silver. They’ll be available on March 22 for $ 199.
Sony’s Personal Audio Group Vice President Andrew Sivori had this to say: “When Sony teamed up with Simon Cowell, our goal was to create the best sounding headphones in the world for today’s most popular music– allowing listeners to experience the full spectrum of audio that artists and producers hear in recording studios. With the newest X Headphones, now we’re delivering that experience in a more compact and portable design.”
