Gawk at new images of Saturn’s super-sized hurricane
NASA’s false-color image of Saturn’s north pole hurricane looks similar to a rose. In this image, red correlates to low clouds while green indicates high clouds.

NASA released the most detailed images ever seen of a gigantic hurricane that scientists believe has existed at Saturn’s north pole for years.
NASA’s Cassini spacecraft snapped the spectacular pictures this past November from a vantage point approximately 261,000 miles from Saturn — a distance so extreme that the above picture has an image scale of about 1 mile per pixel.
Putting the puny weather systems here on Earth to shame, this super-size storm stretches about 1,250 miles wide and creates calamitous wind speeds of up to 330 mph. A hexagon-shaped cloud pattern, measuring 15,000 miles across (roughly the size of four Earths), surrounds the hurricane, which you can see in the photo below.
“We did a double take when we saw this vortex because it looks so much like a hurricane on Earth,” said Andrew Ingersoll, a Cassini imaging team member at the California Institute of Technology. “But there it is at Saturn, on a much larger scale, and it is somehow getting by on the small amounts of water vapor in Saturn’s hydrogen atmosphere.”

BMW X4 Concept images leak ahead of Shanghai debut
Filed under: Concept Cars, China, Crossover, BMW, Shanghai Motor Show, Design/Style, Luxury
Last month, BMW confirmed that its long-awaited X4 crossover would debut next year, but other than imagining a smaller X6-shaped crossover, we really had no idea what the new niche model would look like. That is until a Russian website, Autowp, leaked a handful of embargoed images this morning showing the X4 Concept that will be unveiled in a couple of weeks at the Shanghai Motor Show.
From what we can see of this concept’s styling, there are more elements shared with current BMW models than not. The face of the concept is an attractive blend of the current 3 Series sedan and the X3, while the roofline has definitely plucked right from the X6. This thinly veiled concept should carry over almost untouched when it enters production with the exception of the door handles and the overly stylized fascias and side mirrors. According to CarScoops, it will measure the same length as the current X3 and use the same engine lineup as well. Stay tuned, as we’ll have more information on this concept shortly.

Facebook freshens up News Feed, brings bigger images, feed filtering and a uniform cross-platform UX
We knew Facebook had something new planned for its News Feed, and today at an event at Facebook HQ in Menlo Park, the company confirmed those rumors. As suspected, the new feed filters content by type to display whatever specific feed you choose (be it photos, music, games, etc.), plus it presents even larger images and bigger advertisements. The new layout also serves to better highlight Pages users have liked in a more central and easier to access area, and provides info pulled in by services linked to folks’ Facebook IDs.The desktop FB site’s not the only beneficiary of the new layout, as the Social Network is also bringing these features to its mobile apps as well to provide a consistent experience across platforms. And, the best news? It starts rolling out today to a select few, with a wider rollout to follow once all the kinks have been worked out.

Why the change? Well, Mark Zuckerberg said that the goal for News Feed is to “give everyone in the world the best personalized newspaper we can,” and making it more visually engaging will help Facebook reach that goal. You see, almost 50 percent of the content in News Feed is now photos, and almost 30 percent of content comes from Pages. Want to know more? There’s more info about the changes after the break.

Fotodiox brings 140-megapixel images to your NEX, medium format lens not included
Fotodiox has a new take on E-mount lens adapters that’ll give you 140-megapixel images by performing an interesting trick: moving the camera. The rather spendy device uses an interchangeable lens mount that accepts either Pentax 645, Mamiya 645 or Hasselblad V medium format lenses, coupled with a moveable platform to mount your Sony NEX. When ready to fire, you check the built-in exposure screen to frame the shot and the system moves the NEX around to grab images at predetermined, “precisely-positioned” locations in the lens’ field of view. After stitching it all together in Photoshop or similar software, the result is either a panorama or medium format photo (depending on camera orientation) — 140-megapixels’ worth in the case of a Sony NEX-7. Besides the $ 500 adapter, the aforementioned medium format lens and a tripod, you’ll likely require a healthy dollop of patience to use it, too — and forget about video, of course. Check the PR after the break for more.

Honda Civic Tourer images arrive early on web
Filed under: Concept Cars, Wagon, Geneva Motor Show, Europe, Honda
Honda provided a teaser sketch of its Civic Tourer concept wagon about a month ago (right), but today, just a couple days before its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show, we’ve found these official pics of the car in question from WhatCar?
The Civic Tourer concept adds a little length and height to the current Civic hatchback sold in Europe, stretching the shape every which way to make a new wagon model that will compete with cars like the new Volkswagen Golf Variant, which is also making its debut in Geneva this week.
As we mentioned when Honda released the teaser sketch last month, the European Civic is different from the Civic sold here in the US, so the production version of this concept, which should debut in the fall, will never see the inside of a dealership in the States. Do you care, or does the smaller Fit fill that role well enough for Americans?
If you want more details about the Honda Civic Tourer concept, stay tuned for our live coverage of the Geneva Motor Show this week where we’ll get the skinny on this Euro-only wagon.

Leaked Toyota FT-86 Open concept images preview droptop Scion FR-S [w/video]
Filed under: Concept Cars, Convertible, Performance, Geneva Motor Show, Scion, Toyota
Here it is, folks – the highly anticipated Toyota FT-86 Open concept, a precursor to what could become a road-going Scion FR-S convertible. A full smattering of images and video have leaked onto the internet, and thanks to the folks at FT86Club.com, we can now see the new hotness that Toyota will be unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show next week.
These images confirm details that were first seen in spy shots captured a couple of weeks ago – namely, the larger wheel/tire package and the inclusion of the Toyobaru coupe’s decidedly useless rear seats. These new photos, however, show a two-tone leather interior with goodies such as an iPod/iPhone mount on the dashboard. The concept car is also fitted with the coupe’s six-speed automatic transmission (boo!) and FT86Club.com reports that the folding soft top is operated electronically.
We’ll have the full details live from Geneva in just a few days. For now, click through our attached image gallery to see lots of pretty pictures of the topless wonder, and scroll down for a video to see the concept in motion.

Mirando Kerr Mango Images Up Around Madrid
Finally, Mango has retired Kate Moss and has plastered images of Miranda Kerr around the city of Madrid. The unveiling has finally arrived and I must say, I love the images and I think she is a much better role model than our darling Kate Moss.
These are my two favorite images-what do you guys think? In my opinion, she looks pretty amazing!
Purported images of budget iPhone 5 for China surface
A plastic budget iPhone is quickly becoming the stuff of myths, yet it is as persistent as ever, surfacing despite Apple’s Phil Schiller’s insistence that such a device will never happen. The rumors have reached a new level, with the folks over at iLounge publishing what are purported to be leaked images of a budget iPhone 5 made of plastic and destined for China.

The budget iPhone 5 rumors have stated that such a device would be constructed from plastic and would cost less than its higher-end counterpart. Such is said of the device pictured, which is supposed to be of a plastic iPhone created for China, where such a device would be well received (as it would elsewhere). The handset is said to resemble a smorgasbord of other Apple devices.
The alleged budget iPhone is said to be slightly larger than the iPhone 5 by about half a millimeter in height and width. While the device looks like the iPhone 5 in one image, it is said to actually resemble the iPhone 5, the classic iPod, and the 5th gen iPod Touch mixed together. The device has a 4-inch display, the bottom is said to be like that of the iPod Touch, and its overall design is said to be close to the iPod classic.
The resolution is said to be 1,136 x 640, with the Gorilla Glass display being elevated a tad from the rest of the face similar to the iPhone 3G and 3GS. The rest of the body is said to be made from plastic. Aside from the design, little else about the handset is specified. The information is said to come from “reliable sources,” but as with all rumors, take this with a healthy dose of skepticism.
